Deputy Chairman of the State Duma, Boris Chernyshov, emphasized the importance of developing bilateral cooperation in the field of biotechnology during his working visit to the "Mechnikov Latin American Institute of Biotechnology" in Nicaragua.
During the meeting, the Institute's key competencies were demonstrated, such as the production of liquid sterile medicinal forms and biotechnological products developed by the Saint Petersburg Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums of the FMBA of Russia.
Special attention was given to promising research, production, and educational projects. The unique BioNICA project, aimed at transferring Russian knowledge and forming human resources potential in the Republic of Nicaragua, as well as exchanging experience in the biotechnological field, generated great interest.
During the visit, the creation of preventive vaccines against dengue fever was discussed. The Federal Medical-Biological Agency has extensive experience in this field and coordinates the creation of two alternative platforms at the Center for Strategic Planning of the FMBA of Russia and the Saint Petersburg Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums of the FMBA of Russia. Boris Chernyshov noted the high level of the enterprise and emphasized the importance of these developments for future cooperation between Russia, Latin America, and the Caribbean countries.
It is worth noting that the "Mechnikov Latin American Institute of Biotechnology" is the only immunobiological enterprise in Central America that carries out the final stages of the production of sterile immunobiological products. The enterprise was established in accordance with the agreement between the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and the President of the Republic of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega.
